Tenaya
Lake, Storm Light
Yosemite, California 2002
Often in the higher altitudes of the Sierra range, local storms will
occur daily for days or weeks at a time. They can be wild, almost violent
at times with high winds, lightning, and hail or snow as a bonus. The
storms can be so sharply defined as to have an edge where they just
stop. I first got caught in the middle of this particular storm, drove
to where I found the edge, and then sat watching the sporadic bolts
of crisp lightning and waiting out the heavy rains. I couldn't have
asked for a nicer place to wait it out, parked on the side of the road
at a familiar overlook facing Tenaya Lake. When the light streamed out
of a break in the clouds, I thought, 'I'd have paid to see this!'
