Sierra
Foothills, Spring
Mariposa County, California 2005
I grew up in New England, and spent roughly the first half of my life
there. And still, after a good many years in California, I feel entirely
out of my seasonal rhythm when the Sierra foothills turn green in mid
March. It's no complaint of course, because the emerald hills have been
a source of annual inspiration to anyone with a camera or canvas. On
this day I was chasing a rainbow for a better vantage point, and not
having much luck, before I stumbled onto this scene. The old dirt road
seems to put and older timeline onto the image, and the creak of old
wagons and the called encouragement to strong horse teams doesn't
seem too far off.
