Spring
Hillside
Hite Cove Trail, California 2005
Just west of Yosemite National Park, down in the Merced River Canyon,
is a narrow river trail popular for the wildflowers that cover the hills
in late winter and early spring. I had walked and photographed for over
three hours before I saw this image, and for the dozens of brightly
colored pictures I took that day, this is my favorite -- the one with
no flowers. This scene of solemn, subtle greens and soft, edgy textures
seemed to gaze across the river, barely tolerant of all those bright,
happy little flowers
saying, "Where were you when the winter winds blew,
and the summer flames
flew up over
the
ridge?"
