I
was standing near the western shore of Mono Lake when I took this image.
The storm in the lake area was wonderfully intense, with a steady dose
of sharp, sizzling lightning hitting close enough and often enough to
make me feel too tall for the flat area I was standing in, and too small
for the power of the bolts. I grabbed a few shots during a lull in the
rain and took quick cover back in my truck. The rolling, boiling shape
of the cloud formation really captured the mood of this eastern Sierra
burst of energy.
