Feathers, Red Tailed Hawk
Merced River Canyon, California 1995
I wanted to call this scene, 'Remains of the Meal', but though it might not allow some viewers to get past the grizzly scene it brings to mind. But that, in reality, is what it is. I found these feathers in this pretty little pile next to a dirt road I lived on. At first glance there's no hint of the violence and struggle that took place, but a hawk will not shed his feathers willingly. A closer look will show the large red feather looking as though it had been licked. Well, I don't think the hawk did that. Does a hawk have a big red tongue? (answer yes and leave the room!) So, some animal was kind enough to leave things nice and neat after the meal, and I got this quiet little..................... not so still life.
